I have been surfing a few traffic exchanges for some time now, even though it’s been a while since I have been active, I have thought about an interesting feature that I would like to see.
A Traffic Exchange is a great way to drive free traffic to your websites. A standard traffic exchange is a way to show people your advertisements. The more advertisements you see, the more people will see your advertisements. Usually, you get points for viewing other advertisments, and you use the points to get other people to view your advertisments. You can show people a splash page, banners or text links.
Usually, this is all there is to it.
The traffic exchanges I recommend using are also the ones I am using:
I am always (well, it’s been a while) testing new traffic exchanges, the list of traffic exchanges I recommend might be different in a few months from now, but at the moment I am suring the five above.
Now, to the feature I would like to see.
I have been told that you should never use a general splash page at traffic exchanges, this is because a lot of people are using them. And the more people who are using the same splash pages, the more people will have seen yours, and the less likely it will be that they click on yours. To me, that sounds reasonable.
So, I would like to see a feature like the website that Technorati founder David Sifry just launched. Well, it’s not related to Technorati really, it’s a brand new website called Web Hot or Not?
I am not saying that this service is a great one, but it’s an interesting one. I have tested it, and I have found some really cool sites this way, but I would have wanted various categories. Now, it seems that I am looking at all sorts of websites, and many which are not that interesting to me.
If a traffic exchange had the same feature for splash pages, members could rate them and we would get a lot of interesting feedback. The problem today with traffic exchanges is that you really don’t know if your splash page is any good before you test it for a while. You either spend a lot of time surfing or you spend money buying credits. This is really the only way of knowing how good the splash page is.
If members of a traffic exchange would get points for rating other splash pages, and they would also get points for leaving comments, it would be a great feedback for each member. It would also be a way for members of a Traffic Exchange to start communicating a little more. Most traffic exchanges got forums, but this feature would be something different.
I am not sure, maybe some traffic exchanges have something similar, but I haven’t seen anything like it.

Ok it should be noted that I Love Hits has a rating feature. I thought there was a thumbs up / down thing for some reason. When I checked today for it I realized there was a link on the surfbar to open a rating & comment page. So ILH you can leave comments too, but SX the ratings are on the surfbar and you get activity pts too =P
Funny timing … just got signed up with StartXChange in the last hour. Hope i’ll get good results with it as well.
