A few days ago I experienced way more traffic to my blog than I was used to having. I checked my stats and found that a lot of people have come from a widget called BlogRush. At the time I didn`t know what it was, so I had to do some searching. I found the site and figured out that this was a brand new traffic exchange kind of tool.

A short explanation is offered at their site:

By adding the BlogRush Widget to a blog, a blogger can get instant distribution for their latest blog post titles across a network of related blogs. BlogRush users earn “syndication credits” (the right to have their blog post titles shown inside a widget on another related blog) based on their own traffic (loads of the widget) as well as the traffic of other users they refer to BlogRush. Users can automatically refer others to BlogRush via special links on the widget, as well as through the promotion of a special referral URL they are given.

John Reese, a famous Internet Marketer, is the man behind this new widget. So, the more I show this widget to my visitors and the more people I refer to BlogRush, the more people will show my headlines at their blogs, and hopefully the more people will click on them and visit my blog. Yes, it`s that easy.

But why did I get a lot of traffic from BlogRush without signing up and without having the widget on my blog? Well, what I believe is that in order to launch the widget (it`s still in beta) John Reese and the others had to add blogs to the system, or else it would be hard to launch it without any “content”. Maybe my blog was one of the lucky few to get added before the launch? Well, that`s the only explanation I have for why a lot of people came to my blog from BlogRush.

I saw that the widget did work, because of all the visitors I received, and therefore I decided to sign up and add it to my blog as well. Now you can see it on the right side and it look like it only shows the headlines from blogs related to the topics of my blog (marketing). That`s another reason why it`s an interesting widget to add, and of course it`s 100% free to join and use.

Hey John Reese here.

We DID in fact add your RSS feed to our initial system to seed all of our categories with feeds so on launch the widget wouldn’t be empty.

If you want us to remove our feed we can — but most people actually publish an RSS feed so others will syndicate their content like we did with yours. :-)

Hi John,

No, I am actually more than happy that you added my RSS feed and I really don`t hope that you will remove it.

I just didn`t understand at first why I did get the extra traffic, but I do now :-)

Thanks a lot!
